Frankincense, also known as olibanum, Renowned for its medicinal, cosmetic, aromatic and spiritual value. In Christianity, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh were the gifts given to the baby Jesus by the three wise men. Frankincense has been used in religious ritual for thousands of years and the ancient Egyptians used it in rejuvenation face masks.
Frankincense Essential Oil soothes and calms the mind, slowing down and deepening breathing and is excellent for use when meditating. When inhaled, it has been shown to reduce heart rate and high blood pressure. Rest and release. Sit still and breathe. Close your mind and hear the silence. Frankincense brings about inner peace. Used to induce tranquillity and in particular, a meditative state. Emotionally, frankincense is grounding, centering and comforting, calming and relaxing, and improving one’s spiritual connection. It helps to relieve anxiety and stress, and promote restful sleep.
Opening the airways, it also benefits respiratory conditions such as coughs and colds, asthma and bronchitis. Add 5 drops into a diffuser, or a bowl of boiling water, and inhale deeply to calm coughing and slow the breath.
Frankincense oil helps ease gastrointestinal discomfort such as gas, cramps, constipation, stomach aches, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Used in massage, frankincense essential oil soothes muscles, joints, and tendons, restores elasticity and regenerates strength, reduces pain and inflammation related to conditions like rheumatism and arthritis. Mix a few drops of Frankincense, Lavender and Roman Chamomile with a carrier oil, and massage into your muscles and joints to soothe pain and inflammation.
Deeply rejuvenating, Frankincense essential oil restores firmness and skin's elasticity, smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, reduces the signs of aging for plump, younger-looking skin. For a truly luxurious facial massage, blend Frankincense essential oil with Geranium to nourish the skin and Ylang Ylang to balance sebum production, into a teaspoon of Rosehip Beauty Oil. Apply a thin layer to clean face and neck and gently massage. Leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Frankincense essential oil also helps speed up wound healing and reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scar tissue.
Add 10 – 15 drops to a diffuser.
Alternatively add 5 drops to a warm bath, or 1 to 2 drops to your chosen base oil for a relaxing massage.
